Our Take
Capitalism is the unchallenged champion of economic systems. The collapse of Communism has made opposing its tenets heresy. And yet for most of the world, it just doesn't work. Following up many years of detailed government and acadmic work, Peru's most famous economist puts together an accessible book about why that is. The answer is pretty easy: the poor in most nations have no property rights. But Mr. de Soto explains in wonderful detail that there are informal economies all over the world that are just waiting to be legitimized. An interesting read, especially for those of us who like economic history. Read More at Amazon.com
