Our Take
Roy Jenkins should know a thing or two about Winston Churchill's world: he held several cabinet positions in the UK through the Seventies. So it comes as no surprise that the latest Churchill biography is deep on the political intrigue. Minutes and messages passed between master politicians become excellent tools in Jenkins' capable hands. In the first half of the book, Churchill's life is drawn with bright colors; a recounting of Winston's narrow escape from a Boer prisoner of war camp stands out especially. But ultimately the author tires a bit, and the second half of the book is drawn mostly in grays, and whizzes by a bit too quickly to really be satisfying. Read More at Amazon.com
