A masterly work about a country with a truly fascinating history. The British have had quite a run at it. They were the last outpost and a thriving member of the Roman Empire (veni vedi vici?) and eventually ruled the largest Empire in history. The British also have a marvelous flair for history, pointing out the interesting bits as well as the important bits. This is a first class book, recommended for anyone who likes history.
